Wild flower

The weather was actually quite nice so we went on another bike ride today ( about 10 miles this time ) and we stopped at the side of a lake for an ice-cream and these lovely purple flowers caught my eye.
I'm not sure what they were - the flowers were like thistles but the leaves were much bigger and flatter.
