Making Tracks

It feels good
once the unpleasant tasks
are out of the way

when you can say,
with some justification,
that you’ve done your duty

and deserve some respite;
it’s right, now, that you
should get to take it easy

so have a treat, put up your feet,
close those eyes of yours
and relax

while you can, before some woman
or man comes along
and tells you

that you should be making tracks
chop, chop
and to get a bloody move on.
