The Bank of Leith
Back in the day Leith had it's own bank The Leith Banking Company. It produced it's own banknotes as can be seen here. The bank was founded in 1793 and was initially quite prosporous. This domed building in Bernard Street was it's head office. It was the first Scottish bank to open in England and had a branch in Carlisle. Sir Walter Scott was reputed to have been an account holder. Unfortunately On 7th May 1842 the bank was sequestrated. This building is now home to a software development company.
