196/365: Early morning mist

Back-blip

I tend to wake up early most mornings anyway, but especially when I'm camping. As soon as the birds start waking up, so do I. This particular morning I could tell from the bright green glow inside my tent that the sun was out and it already felt warm (plus I could hear heron activity!) so I struggled out through all the zips and tent flaps, trying to make as little noise as possible. Tent zips seem so noisy on a quiet site, and the more slowly and carefully you try to open them, the more the sound seems to amplify!!

My tent was pitched right next to the shore of the lake and as I walked down to the water I almost bumped into a heron! The heron was being quiet, and I was being quiet and for a moment neither of us saw one another and we were just stood side by side. Then we sort of both looked at each other, and the heron must have thought, "Eak, a horrible human, I'm out of here!" and I thought, "Ohhh, a beautiful heron, quick try to focus and take a shot before it buggers off!"

I failed. But I did manage to get a shot of it flying away over the misty lake. The whole scene looked beautiful that morning. The sun had just risen from behind the hills and the mist was burning off the water and disappearing as I watched. It looked magical. I love it when I have the lake all to myself, with just the birds and critters.

My dad was very confused today, it was upsetting to see, so I stayed on the site all day while my mum went into the village to do the shopping and took Holly for walks. She brought me some peas to pod - always my favourite job. I would say about half of the peas didn't make it into the pot. Holly helped me polish off quite a few too - she loves them as much as me!

Extra is of the yummy peas. What was left of them :)
