Change

Found this at a grocery store. Although the appropriate verb with the noun, change, is give or provide in this context (which I double-checked with a British friend of mine), those who do not understand Japanese would be able to catch what this means anyway. One can get change only when she makes a purchase, but not when she just asks for some coins without making a purchase.

I come to this store quite a lot. The cashiers always make me feel awkward by bowing surprisingly deeply when I bring stuff to buy. I doubt that they had been such polite before I left Japan last autumn. Most customers may also find it uneasy I guess as they cannot do anything but wait for the cashier to finish bowing.
