Craigallian Fire Memorial

This simple stone memorial sits by the West Highland Way near Craigallian Loch between Milngavie and Carbeth. It was erected in 2012 to recognise the contribution made by those who sat around the fire lit here during the 1920s as pioneers of the right to roam in Scotland's hills and mountains. Many of the "fire sitters" were unemployed young men from Glasgow who walked here seeking change from the depression of the city in the 1930s. The fire was kept alight for many years.
The full inscription on the memorial is just readable in my extra photo
