...but plenty of walking today through 'the Valley', Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.

In the 1850s when the Moreton Bay penal settlement was closed and the area opened up to 'free settlers', The Fortitude Valley was cleared for farmland and market gardens and a township formed with shops, churches, pubs (of course) and a Chinatown.

Now a smorgasbord of 1880s boomtime architecture such as McWhirters Drapers and Department Store (extra photo), Chinese shophouses, artist studios and lofts, nightclubs and bars and some very cool street art.
This I reckon amongst the simplest, coolest and most clever
