Confrontation
The bellbird was not impressed with the waxeye’s angry attempt to scare her off with his wing shaking. She calmly went on drinking the sugar water that he was guarding.
The bellbird is a regular customer at both feeding stations, but today I saw a male checking them out. He had a female with him. She sampled the sugar water, but he didn’t. I don’t know if she was this female or another. His presence explains the more complex song than the female sings that I have heard a number of times lately.
