This photo taken circa 1880 to 1890's is a portait of my Great Great Grandfather Thomas Byron Smith, born 1817 or 1821 in Middlesex, London, died 1896 South Australia. I have been trying for two years now to uncover his previous life in UK, before he married my Great Great Grandmother Ellen McWaters in Gawler, South Australia in 1850. Nothing is known of his younger years and I have this photo with me constantly hoping one day it will speak to me and share its secrets. Our Family Tree is now complete back five generations, all 16 Great Grands except this frustrating little fellow. One day I will crack him.
