Chestnut Tree???

Saw this today and was puzzled. 7 to 8ft high and very wide indeed, 20ft at least, and obviously a chestnut of some sort judging by the leaves and flowers. At first we thought it was a treee that had been cut down and sprouted from the base but looking into the middle of it we couldn't see a stump (It was very congested in there so not easy to see) It seemed to be a series of separate thin stems, (about 2 to 3 Ins. diameter) I have never seen anything like this before. Has anyone any idea of what kind of chestnut this is ...Maurice??
