The Silent People

Drove today from Kajaani to Posio via Kuusamo and visited once again The Silence People and The Field Cafe alongside National Highway 5, 30 kilometres north from Suomussalmi. This view is always stunning. It´s the artwork of dancer and performance artist Reijo Kela. The Silent People (almost 1000 thousand) moved to their present home 1994. The peatheads are kept in good shape and have their clothing attended to twice a year, theis heads come straight from the field, their clothes from organized collections. The Silence People are made and clothed by The Suomussalmi Youth Workshop, which also takes care ot their maintenance.
