Blip Mission Number 8

This box shows the legend of Hinemoa and Tutanekai.  Tutanekai lived on Mokoia Island in Lake Rotorua.  In the evenings he would play his flute and the music could be heard across Lake Rotorua.  It charmed the beautiful Hinemoa.  He father was not in favour of this romance.  One night Hinemoa slipped away from her village and swam out to Makoia Island by following the sound of the music.  Evidently they lived happily ever after and many local Maori can trace their ancestors back to the children of Hinemoa and Tutanekai.
