Day by Day

The steepest - 48%

The allegedly steepest cogwheel railway in the world is the one which was built in 1889 up to the mountain Pilatus. Even though I grew up only 40km away, I've never been up there.

The peak of the Pilatus has been covered by clouds the last few days, but was clear today - so we had to go!

We started at 7am taking the boat to Lucern, the train to Alpnachstad and the cogwheel railway up to Pilatus Kulm. The view at 0915am (still some morning light) was simply breathtaking. Extremely difficult to chose todays blip. So I also used some extra credits :)

We then walked down to Alpnachstad in 4.5 hours (includes a Rösti /Panaché break for lunch at Lütoltsmatt) and boarded the ship back to Lucerne and Hertenstein (of course not without the local ice cream in our hands) to arrive at our place 10 hours after we started. Tired, hot (having had almost more sun than wished for) and Fitbit logged 25'000 steps and a long descend.

Evening swim in the lake (water 24 C / air 30C ) at 6pm. Dinner outside at sunset will end that amazing summer day.
