Breakfast

Osprey heaven! I dropped RTD to an early appointment in Alexandria, and decided to head down to the waterfront to see if I could see any ospreys. One zoomed past me with a fish in its claws before I had even taken out my camera, then I wandered aimlessly looking for more. A half hour later I gave up and turned back to the car, and saw them all -- a half dozen beautiful specimens hunting and eating near an abandoned pier, above some manky water.

Conditions were a little tough -- they were quite far away, and I had no tripod and no place to rest my (I realise now) very heavy zoom lens. But still, I had a grand time watching them fight and frolic.

2 Proustian moments on my bike ride to work:
1. The smell of freshly mown grass on a hot summer morning reminded me of Athlone regatta;
2. A stretch of the trail beside the river, and the smell of summer growth, reminded me of the towpath to St. Mullins.
