The Art of Dry Stone Walling
It really is quite an art and the many, many dry stone walls I've seen hiking in the Yorkshire Dales have all been a little different. What they do have in common though is that they are very large and solid constructions! This wall is made of Millstone Grit and typical of those on Ilkley Moor.
Today we walked from the town and did a circular route on Ilkley moor that took in many of the landscape features I have come to know through Earthdreamers journal, the Badger Stone, the Shepherds Hut, White Wells, the Cow and Calf, the Tarn and the many beautiful lone trees. It was wonderful to embrace these icons for real, another lovely day.
