Marbled...

After a morning trying to catch up with all my identifications and restore some semblance of order to parts of the house, it was soon time to depart for the local Wildlife Trust group walk round Barnack Hills and Holes. I's been asked to welcome all the attendees and do the health and safety talk, as our Chairman was ill, but I hadn't planned to lead a walk.

However, after a rainy start to the day, the afternoon turned out to be glorious, albeit with a fresh and gusty wind, and consequently we had about forty people turn up. It was decided to split the group into three, and Pete and I were roped in to lead one group. The site was looking rather brown and parched, but we found plenty of flowers, butterflies and other insects, including a good number of marbled whites and just a scatter of chalkhill blues, which are just emerging. The weather wasn't ideal for photography and I'm totally amazed that this is in focus as all the grasses were swaying furiously!
