When No One's Looking
.....the boys play marbles.
Among the many, many things I'm learning about the history of this place, since I started working here is, that these elephants represent four out of eight of "Mr Carlsberg's" children. Four died young and are remembered with four church bells near by (that Carl Jacobsen also had built) and the four that survived childhood are represented here, as a solid foundation for the brewery's future. Originally they (the elephants) supported a water tower that housed the special (clean) water used for the beer.
The light only falls like this on these guys, for 20 mins' a day, for a couple of weeks a year. I saw no one else with a camera, the tourists have long since departed.
