The 'Keepers around here go to a lot of trouble to protect their birds.

The poults are fed in armoured runs on the best grain. the 'wild' birds are cossetted in special field-edge reserves, from which, numpties and their dogs are excluded. The vermin is poisoned [!] and birds of prey 'discouraged.

Unfortunately, pheasants are the most stupid of creatures. The wild birds choose to nest on the roadside and fly under the wheels of passing range rovers. When the young are grown they fly towards the guns in an attempt to attain Nirvana before their brethren.
