Ducking and Diving

Ducking and diving. That's me today. 

Head down, take the flack and hopefully  there's a branch as a life raft!

This is a male mallard ...strangely, as in July the males and females are almost identical in their 'eclipse' plumage.  Any doubts about this would be assuaged by another shot of it's head which has got those gorgeous greeny plumes starting to show. Taken at Cannop Ponds in the Forest of Dean - locally pronounced as 'faarest' :)

One  stat. which I wasn't happy with: some of the mallards which live in towns  are reputed to drown and swallow sparrows! What?!!
