Camouflage
A few days ago I took a picture of a flower, which stood out strongly against its background. Today’s picture is exactly the opposite; had the squirrel not moved, it would not have been seen.
In the past I had often wondered why the grey squirrels gradually replaced our native red squirrels and I had thought that it was mainly genetic and food requirements. I now realise that the grey colour is far nearer the average colour of most of our countryside and that camouflage may have been even more significant.
