Sidewalk Surprise

 So, I thought I knew what I was going to use for my photo today----until about 4:00 this afternoon when I stepped out my front door and was greeted by this handsome creature. I wasn't sure he would still be there by the time I turned and grabbed my camera, but he stayed long enough for a few shots. I knew he was some variety of dragonfly. They do look VERY different from the damselflies. I have finally figured out that he is an immature male Common White-tailed Skimmer. You can know that he is immature because he doesn't have his white tail yet. The white will come on gradually as his body is covered by a white powdery substance and then he will look like what you might expect from a White-tailed Skimmer....
