Meadow Brown in the Meadow
Not the crispest shot of a butterfly ever, but I liked the colours and the grasses. If I had a clearer understanding of how the autofocus works on my camera (ie if I had any understanding at all) I would probably get more shots in focus...maybe a holiday project, I am a bit lazy with the technical stuff.
There's a lovely late afternoon light over the fields and the cattle, seen from my window as I write, stand out against the cropped grass: dun, cream, weak coffee, fawn, pale ginger. They ruminate quietly and a few are flicking their tails idly to swat away the flies.
As I wandered through our grass meadow earlier, I disturbed a swarm of crickets that scattered in all directions at my footfall, drifting slightly on the gusty breeze as they propelled themselves through the air. I came upon butterflies here and there, mostly meadow browns, fluttering amongst the grasses, and a cinnabar moth. Retracing my steps, I met the almost invisible Biscuit, our cat, pale ginger cream amongst the golden grasses. She must have followed me out and was sunning herself.
