When railways were king!

The size of this building is enormous and is a testimony to the heyday of the industrial revolution.  Built in the late 1800's it lasted about 60 years and closed in 1954.  I remember, when I first came to work in Manchester, using it as a rather scruffy car park in the 1980's. Thankfully it was not knocked down (hardly surprising when you see the thickness of the walls - see extra photos) and is now a massive leisure centre featuring a multi-screen cinema, a casino and numerous restaurants.

Why not take a look next time you visit Manchester?
