Mount Ruapehu

I took this photo of the crater lake this afternoon on my flight from Wellington to Rotorua. It was just stunning following a recent dumping of snow. I also took one of Mount Ngauruhoe, and if you look here (it hasn't really worked that well, but look under North Island trip) you will see a picture of it. It was hard to decide which one to blip today, but I think Mount Ruapehu with its crater lake deserved today's spot.

Mount Ruapehu is one of the world's most active volcanoes, and the largest active volcano in New Zealand. The mountain has two commercial ski fields, Whakapapa on the northern side and Turoa on the southern slope. They are the two largest ski fields in New Zealand, with Whakapapa the larger.

The weather in Wellington was dreadful - very windy and cold, with intermittent rain. I thought of you Quigs when walking to the plane and just about being blown of the tarmac - how can you live there!!! Joking aside, Wellington is a lovely place - that is when it isn't windy!

As I will be away from home, I may not be able to respond to everyone's blips. I will try, however please accept my apologies if you don't hear from me for a couple of days.
