Reed Wren

I felt well enough today after my ENT infection to go for a proper walk. I headed for Amwell Nature Reserve. Very few people about, no birders as it's the off-season. The hides were empty.

As soon as I walked into the James Hide I noticed the reeds twitching and it wasn't long before I spotted a reed warbler, also known as the reed wren. I enjoyed watching it toing and froing with its beak full of insects. It must have a nest. These are basket-shaped and slung between the reeds. Do hope the cuckoo hasn't deposited an egg in this one. Hope the young are strong enough for the long flight to Africa when summer is over.
