Come Any Closer and I'll Crab you!

There were many memorable moments today on our last day in Costa Rica. I went Kayaking on the sea at Tamarindo, we ate our best meal of the week at the Patagonia, finally able to shower after having no water for a day. But probably one of the most bizarre events of our stay here was the sudden 'Invasion of the Crabs'. Two nights ago we observed at least 50 crabs crawling across the road in Tamarindo - it reminded me of lemmings as so many of them were simply crushed by cars as they ambled in their droves across the road. When we went for breakfast at a local organic restaurant we discovered these feisty creatures under our table and all over the stone stairway. They were at least 100 yds from the beach and clearly confused about what they were doing. A local told us that his happens every year in July but I am still trying to find out why. This little fellow was ready for a fight when I got my camera out but he let me take this photo of his brave aggressive pose!
