Bastille Day

It is a public holiday here in France today meaning that, apart from it being a very important symbolic occasion, half the shops and businesses are shut and half are open (well even the shops that open do so only for the morning).  It kind of sums up the French attitude to work-life balance and I make no judgement on who is right and who is wrong.  Half see it as an opportunity to do extra business, half see it as a day off.  The same is true of restaurants.  We sat in Place du Mercadial in the cafe "Le Mercadial" which was, obviously, open.  The two adjoining eateries that spill out across the square were shut.  We had a cool beer and I took this shot lazily from my table.  Earlier, we did our chores; me painting some of the roof trusses on the terrace, N trying her hand (very successfully) at pointing the terrace stone wall.
