England - 1990

Dear Diary,

This month 25 years ago I made my first trip abroad.  I went on a 3 week tour of  England and it was also the first time I traveled by myself.  I got hooked on solitary journeying on this trip.   I mentioned finding some of the slides from that trip awhile back.  A friend scanned a few for me so I could put them in this journal to mark the 25th anniversary.

Most of them are sadly degraded but this one of me and a tiny hedgehog isn't too bad.  My driver spotted the wee creature on the side of the road coming back from the Lake District in the north. 

I had so wanted to see one of these shy creatures and it was one of the highlights, of many, on the trip.  Over the last 25 years I've been fortunate to travel all over the world but it was this trip to England that will always be one of my favorites.  It started my love affair with travel.
