Ambleny War Graves

This is off the main Compiégne-Soissons road, about 15 minutes' drive from the Gite we were staying at. Unbelievably, there are 10,061 people buried here, over 36,400 square metres, mostly soldiers but some civilians. It's the largest French Military Cemetery in Aisne.

None of the graves are tended to and they are buried back-to-back. This shot was taken from the middle of the plot - there are graves are far as the eye can see. Quite a sombre thought.
