Lavender in Arizona???

Unexpected but true.
Lavender grown in the White Mountains of Arizona makes Arizona lavender the second highest altitude lavender grown in the world (Provence, France is the highest altitude where lavender is grown).
The ecosystem of the White Mountains produce intensely fragrant lavender because of the increased ester content that occurs at higher altitudes. There is a huge lavender farm in the area and a festival every year.
There are 13 varieties that grow in AZ- I'm not sure which one this is. It was growing along the road- what an amazing surprise!
