Ramblings and Mutterings

My Awesome Ashes Summer!

Awesome day from start to finish!

This was test match cricket at its best!  The first Ashes test was neatly poised as England had set a big target for Australia, with still two days left of play.  The morning session was fantastic, England’s bowlers were testing the Aussie batsman, but they were still making runs, and as it was heading to lunch it seemed like the momentum was swinging towards Australia.  But then a huge wicket, the momentum had swung back to England, the Aussies went into lunch with their heads down, and England were buoyant.  And they kept it up after lunch, another wicket fell and the pressure was really on.  More wickets fell, but then resistance from Mitchell Johnson and it looked like the test might go to the fifth day.  But then the final three wickets fell and England had secured a fantastic win and were one up in the Ashes Test Series.

Cardiff and Wales is no stranger to putting on a show for world sporting occasions, and this ranks right up there with one of the greatest!  At the start of the test people were moaning about the pitch, traditionalists were questioning why Cardiff was hosting the first Ashes test and every other whinge and moan to take the gloss of it.  Boy were all those whinges shoved down the throats of the critics, Cardiff was a fantastic host, created a great atmosphere and the pitch produced loads of runs and loads of wickets.  This was a special day!

Cardiff was bouncing as we made our way back into the city through Bute Park, and it partied hard all through the night.  We had a great time as well, we’d been drinking champagne, cider and wine at the cricket and then made our into the city centre for some food and more drink.  What a session!

It was a great day with great company in my friends Anne and Richard!
