Serve with cream if you like- I have never liked cream ( or cold custard, or soggy sponge...trifle is the worst dessert ever!) So this is just the strawberries and meringue added to a basic lemon traybake recipe.

We had friends over ( they used to work with my dad about forty years ago and moved to England but still kept in touch). It's like having an extra aunt and uncle....they are going to have Islay for us when we go on holiday so I thought I would bribe them with cake.
