Wearing purple...

Gone to the dogs...

Just got back from a rather strange night out...
We had an invite to an ex-colleague's leaving do - at the greyhound stadium near Sheffield. We hadn't a clue what to expect, but arrived with a number that got us entry for £5.50 each, which covered a bet, a beer and a burger. Seemed a bargain, as entry only is £6!
The clientele appeared to be an eclectic bunch - everything from hen parties & stag dos, to businessmen in suits, and ladies in posh dresses and high heels.

As we drove into the car-park a bunch of people were there with banners and pictures, protesting about the use of dogs for racing, and their abandonment when they were no longer fit for the track. They were very polite, and offered no hassle at all.
Inside the track a few guys were collecting for a retired greyhound charity. As we were still taking in what to do with our tickets and where to go, we were obviously a bit slow off the mark contributing to his tin, so he gave us a right mouthful and stormed away. How strange are the ways of the world!
Never been before, will probably never go again, but we had a pleasant evening catching up with people we hadn't seen for some time. Had a chilled beer ( or two ), placed a bet ( and had a win ), and passed on the voucher for the burger as Helen had cooked us a lovely meal before we set off. A slightly surreal evening, but an opportunity to give Jacky a good send off to her new job!
PS - I could only capture the greyhounds that were pretending to race - see extra for the real ones rushing past!
