Port Sunlight

Today we visited Port Sunlight on the Wirral with our friends. We have been saying for a good while that we should visit as it's less than an hour away........we were so glad we did!! It's a fantastically well kept village, where people still live today. Properties rarely come onto the market it seems, only when someone passes away apparently, so as you can imagine they are sought after. The lawns, rose beds and gardens of all the cottages are immaculately kept.

I don't normally go in for collages, but as there was so much to see, and I really couldn't choose what to blip, I've selected six shots to give you a flavour of this purpose built village.

There are two examples of the several different styles of workers cottages, built by William Lever for his workforce. They all worked in his factory, their main product was Sunlight Soap, hence Port Sunlight.

Top left is a view of the War Memorial, and further behind it, his wife, Lady Levers Art Gallery, with a more recent addition of a Hillsborough Rememberence Garden in the foreground, all seen through a raised arch and balustrade.

The figurine features in the Art Gallery, and is one of many fine pieces of art on display in the gallery, which incidentally had free admission ;-)

The fabulous glass dome is in the foyer and entrance of the offices that front the actual factory which is still in operation today and produces products such as Simple Soap, VO5 hair products, Surf, Comfort, to name a few!

Bottom right is the entrance to the Art Gallery, with another memorial in the centre of the junction.

If you fancy a visit, it's well worth while!
