View From The 100th Floor - 'Freedom Tower'
New York - Day 2
Yesterday I blipped the picture from my hotel room of the new 'Freedom Tower' in New York. Today I went up the tower. This is one of the views, looking north over Manhattan with the Hudson River to the west.
This was not a 'cheap' tourist attraction, but it was SO worth it. The 'experience' was described to me as a little 'Disneyfied'. It certainly was more than a quick elevator ride (less than 60 seconds) and a view at the top. There was a slick presentation that is a preliminary part of the experience. I thought it was extremely well-done. At the end of the experience there is a bit of an unexpected surprise which had the audience gasp in delight! I actually found it quite emotional and got very choked up - partly because this 'country-girl' also loves the city, and partly because this site will always have a huge significance to any airline person, especially to those of us who work for either United or American, the two airlines used so horribly that day back in September of 2001.
I love this city and the resilient New Yorkers, and all they are doing to bravely and beautifully rebuild this whole area. There's hardly a New Yorker who didn't lose a friend or a family member that day.
For a few more pictures from my day, see this Flickr album.
I previously blipped the Freedom Tower on May 20th, 2015 and the 9/11 Memorial on Mar 18th, 2014.
