Help Mummee help!
Fledgling swallow lands on kitchen window, cheeping loudly - cats' eyes swivel - cats removed - go outside - roaming cats beaten back - youngster still vulnerable - where is Mum, or Dad? What to do?
I have an idea - move fledgling to upper window! Rush upstairs to assess. As I examine upper window for perching possibilities a reunion suddenly takes place - parent bird collects juvenile and escorts it to safety. Airborne, they swoop and connect, dart and touch, as the rescue is effected and the moment of danger passes. It awakens in me memories of that panic reaction of scolding concern when a child's reckless impulse takes them a heart-beat away from tragedy.
Still on the subject of birds, I can strongly recommend watching this very short clip about a young man, blind from birth, who has made it his life's work to record bird song using his ears alone to locate its source. It's another example of why the word 'disability' is such a misnomer.
