uel Gil, Ropemaker, Died 1805

This impressive stone caught my eye. It makes me sad when natural decay takes over, won't be long before uel Gil is no longer known to us.

Little research required to find out it belongs to Samuel Gilmour, Ropemaker of Edinburgh. Ordinarily he wouldn't have had so grand a headstone but he had invested wisely in properties and land.

Unfortunately, his son who inherited it all also lost it all 3 years later.
