Arrived at the hospital at 7am, Roy booked in by 7.15am.  He was called through at about 8am and was told he was second on the list.  He went down to theatre at 9.30am.

Relatives are given this information sheet along with a code number.  You type the code number onto a screen and up pops the information of the patient, name, anaesthetist, Dr, and the point the procedure is at.

He came out of theatre at midday, the Dr came to see me at about 12.15, gave me a progress report and the 2 follow up appointment dates.

I was allowed to see Roy, but first I had to get 'gowned up, the full works, cap, shoe protectors, green gown, sanitise my hands' then I was allowed into recovery.  He look pretty rough, so I only stayed a short time.  I was told he wouldn't be out until 7pm, so I came home.

Did some jobs, a bit of shopping, then back to the hospital, typed his ID number into the machine, then went into recovery, again having to 'gown up'. He was out of bed, having a drink and a biscuit, once he had had a 'pee' he was allowed to get dressed and we came home.

Typical Roy, once home he immediately had a bowl of cereal and a cup of tea, and proceeded to do the crossword in todays paper.  His nose started to bleed, so I made him sit in the chair, head back, until it stopped.

He is now in bed, hopefully he will have a decent nights sleep.

I am off to have a glass of wine.
