A Winter blanket

The layer on the ground gathered together at the beginning of my clearing it is last summer's and some before then stones out of fruit from this aged and gnarled tree loosely referred to as a cherry (I think). Its fruit is an unknown and not wonderful to bite into so it falls to the ground. As it begins to rot in its myriads it makes a slippery mess that ripens by degrees so underfoot freshly fallen fruit that is hard and tends to roll underfoot and fruit breaking open form a rotting blanket. I decided as it makes a mess to clean it up (on brooms and shovels) to leave it all rot and see if it enhances the earth under it; as well it at least retained moisture during the drought of summer.
