Spurn Point
It's a long (7km) walk but we made it to the very end, all but a gorse bush or so. Unless you have a landrover or an amphibious vehicle, shank's pony is the only way to access the point. In December 2013 a tidal surge tore away part of the road that served lifeboat crew and Humber pilot residences.
Looking back towards Kilnsea, on the left is the old, or low, lighthouse, built in 1852 with a watertank on the top. On the right is the new lighthouse, built in the 1890's it ceased operating in 1985. Grade II listed, this is under restoration into a visitor centre after being awarded a £470,500 lottery grant.
