Peter the Great
The tapestry of Peter the Great gives the room its name. The portrait on the left is of the 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire, who brought the tapestry back from Russia -- a gift from Catherine the Great. The twin tapestry is in the Hermitage in St Petersburg.
When he brought the tapestry home, he didn't have anywhere to hang it -- so he rebuilt this room, raising the ceiling and removing the attic above it. Can't imagine what his wife thought!
