Fresh grass
These cows and calves were just put into this field of new fresh grass yesterday, and they look as it they are really tucking in! The calves have all been born in the last month or so and some of the mothers are looking a bit thin. A couple of weeks on this grass and they'll be nice and filled out again.
The looks of amazement and incredulity on the faces of some of them are due to the fact that they have just watched me cycling down the hill! Not a common sight, it's a long time while since I've been on a bike, and never one with 21 gears before!
It was left over after the last sale in the village hall, so Mike bought it for £20. It's a mountain bike, lots of springs, knobbly tyres and a bone like saddle! He's now put a nice geriatric friendly gel filled saddle on it, and is going to swap the tyres for ones off his old bike. The idea is that we will both be able to use it.
I know it's said you never forget how to ride a bike, but it takes a bit of getting used to again! When we were kids we spent all day out on our bikes, cycling without using the handlebars, with someone on the handlebars, or on the back and rode through the woods, sand dunes and along the beach. And all with no gears!
