Freedom's Journey
"... We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness ..."
Today is the day that the Declaration of Independence of the USA was officially signed in 1776.
Like so many nations before us, the price was brutal for all.
My Grandfather came to this country many years ago with a wife and 3 children.
He came for future opportunity for his children- he worked in the unsafe coal mines to provide for them.
He and my Grandmother went on to have a very large family, a big garden, not a lot of money but a huge amount of happiness.
Having lived in Europe and fought in WWI, my Grandfather told me that he hoped that we never took our freedom for granted.
He prayed that war never happened again but he told me to fight for freedom if it was needed...
Continued freedom is always a challenge, always a journey with the future path unknown.
