From the bus heading back to the office, stuck on Princes Street at the east end.

Now Top Shop, Top man and a Travelodge, this magnificent looking .used to be, before the top part became a hotel more of a department store. It not only housed Top Shop and Top Man, but also Burtons, Wallis, Principles and a Dorothy Perkins as well as a restaurant on the top floor. There was also a Hawkshead outdoor section for a while. I think it actually stated as a Burtons.

Before that it was Forsyth's Department Store. It was designed by Sir John Burnet using baroque influences. It was built in 1906-07. One of the key features are the internal pink marble pillars and the magnificent staircase.

What is missing is the Forsyth Sphere, which featured signs of the zodiac and was held aloft by cherubs, that use to sit a top the tower. It was removed by Arcadia in 2012 on the grounds of Health and Safety. Not only is there is a campaign to restore it, but the city council is demanding it be restored as the building is a category A listed building.
