Fly by night

Ok, by day really.  Which is exactly what Mr B should have been doing.  But it turns out that if your first plane sits on the tarmac doing not very much for 45 minutes, then chances are you are going to miss your "booked straight through with the same airline" flight with a 50 minute transfer time.

Anyway, earlier a very pleasant morning.  Our workers showed up early (I presume) and work was well underway by the time we stumbled downstairs.  Last night I added to the list of shows I need to see again due to falling a bit asleep...  So, the terrace is more than half dug out - due to be finished tomorrow.  I did feel bad for the guys.  They are observing Ramadan - so no water in all that heat, digging out soil as hard as concrete.  Us sitting inside having a champagne brunch probably didn't help...  (And it might have been polite to have taken down yesterday's washing, which seemed somehow to be all bras and pants...)

Brunch was going to be figs, quiche and salad, but the kids excitement at "Ooh brunch - that means pancakes" and Mr B's response of "Oh come on, you can't expect your Mam to produce pancakes just like that" ended up feeling a bit like a 1950s ad, as I reached for the 'instant American pancakes' mix and whipped up a batch well within the promised 5 minutes.

It seemed only fair to let Mr B indulge in the champagne, so it was me who drove to the airport, as fast as I dared with the roof down (our favourite aircon; to be honest, our only aircon).  Happily we arrived before check-in closed.  Later, CarbBoy had a birthday party at a waterpark, TallGirl alternated reading and watching Friends, and I read the Guardian and made an off-piste skirt for TallGirl.  Ran out of thread, but nearly there.

Hot hot hot again.  I'm sure the swallowtails are looking paler this year.  The tomatoes are thriving, the green beans were looking a bit tired, but have been well drenched this evening, and disrobed of half a kilo or so of beans.  CarbBoy is already rolling his eyes at beans again for dinner...
