Castellane
Stumbled upon this town by complete accident looking for the Gorge du Verdon - it was an absolute delight nestled in the hills, the highlight was the church perched on the clifftop just visible in this blip - called Notre Dame du Roc - as the sun was setting we made our way slowly up to the top to visit - it was well worth the trip - the inside of the church is adorned with messages from people that have tackled or come through adversity and given thanks to "Our Lady" - akin to a St. Christopher - there were two pictures in the church dating from the 1930's I think when the villagers were saved from two epidemics of chlorea and small pox, thanks had been given to the statue of "Our Lady" and she is pictured being delivered back to the church by the path which leads up the rocky slopes. A magical day.
