Mutant Marigold Thursday

I spotted this marigold (Calendula) in Merville's garden earlier in the week. Merville had spotted it too! It's one of the plants from last Autumn, the original flower had died and instead of just producing seeds there are about 10 miniature versions of the flower head growing from the centre of the old flower.

Has anyone else seen this phenomenon? All of the flowers on this particular plant are doing the same. It's very pretty and I'm going to try to save some seed, if seed is produced, to see if this will happen in subsequent generations.

We had showers later this afternoon but MrD didn't get wet when he rode home from work on his motorbike.
