Annie's In Oregon

Under Her Wing

Twenty four eggs were laid in a nest.  Some by this hen, and some by her friends.  She sat on all 24 by herself, in a nest under the bushes in grammapat's yard.  On rainy days, she hunkered down and kept the eggs warm.  On nice days, she'd walk over and eat and drink with the other chickens, then back she'd go to sit.  She is trustworthy and diligent, and under her wing, it is warm and safe.  Eleven hatched and have survived.  Eleven little chicks.
When she walks, they follow, because they can count on her.  She leads them to safety and food, and teaches them to be chickens.  She's a good hen. I want to be like a good hen, a place of refuge and strength.  I want to be trustworthy and diligent. I want to be a good hen (even though I will never sit on eggs...nope, not doing that)
