Better Late Than Never?

The Open Air Theatre in Scarborough is a bone of contention in more ways than one.

The Local Authority first took the controversial decision to plough all the proceeds of the sale of a big chunk of 'the family silver' into refurbishing the once pioneering but long derelict Open Air Theatre. Next they took the controversial decision to award the management contract to a newly formed company.

The use of the theatre in its first two years has been disappointing to many. Then this year it got worse. No programme announced by the 'management company' by the end of 2011. Nor in fact to this day.

So at the last minute the Council produced its own programme of concerts.

The first has just been held. An audience apparently of 'over 1,000', in a venue that can seat five times that.
