Water strider

This little insect lives on the surface of the pond water. His body is only about half an inch long but his legs have a longer span so that he can walk on water. He will eat other insects that fall into the pond. He finds them by using his legs to detect the source of vibration on the surface of the water.

We have hundreds of these little guys in the pond. They like to eat mosquito larvae and do not bite people, so I like them a lot!
